The Rutland Fair A Grand Tradition, the “Fact and Fancy about the Rutland Fair
1846-1953”, written by Peter Cooper is the centerpiece of this
issue. Associate Director of Publicity for the Vermont State Fair
for 23 years, Mr. Cooper was in a well-placed position to
provide its history.
The fair had its beginnings in Castleton, and its continued
success over the years in Rutland is related in great detail.
Individuals such as Theodore Roosevelt, Dr.Bell, Wizard of the
High Wire, Mamie Spence, “World’s Best Horseback Rifle
Shot”, and numerous other fascinating personalities add color
and excitement.
Mr. Cooper adds additional interest in discussing broader world
events during those years. A happy excursion into the past.
